Dar es Salaam University

Dar es Salaam is the largest and most prosperous city in Tanzania. While it does not hold the title of nation capital, this city is actually the center of commerce and politics in the country. It is also the nation’s major center for education. Most of the great universities in Tanzania can be found in Dar es Salaam such as Ardhi University, the Open University of Tanzania, the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, the International Medical and Technological University, and of course The University of Dar es Salaam. The University of Dar es Salaam is arguably the most sought after university in the whole country. It was founded on 1970 when the University of East Africa was split into three different universities namely Makerere University, which is located in Uganda, University of Nairobi in Kenya, and of course, University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. This University is located just 14 kilometers from the city center and its main campus is dubbed as Mlimani. Dar es Salaam offers different educational degrees, specifically Bachelor’s Degree, Masters, and Doctoral. They also offer Certificatio Programs for those who just want to study a specific subject. Several African presidents have studied in this prestigious university namely Jakaya Kikwerte, the president of Tanzania, Yoweri Museyeni, the President of Uganda, as well as Laurent-Desire Kabila, the former president of Congo. Other famous personalities who studied in Dar es Salaam university include Edward Lowassa, John Garang, Asha-Rose Migiro, Augustine P. Mahiga, Getrude Mongella, and Walter Rodney. Indeed, this stellar array of alumni only shows the superb quality of education offered by this university.
